Vendor Highlight: PJ Hummel of PJ Hummel & Company

Photo used with permissionWhat is your name and company?
My Name is PJ Hummel and my business is PJ Hummel & Company

What inspired you to start your business?
I spent the first fifteen years of my career doing window display and visual merchandising for stores and tradeshows. In 1995, a friend asked me to help on a fundraiser for the local zoo. During that event someone showed me a copy of Special Event Magazine, where I learned there was a whole world of people creating wild & wacky events for a living. It seemed like the very best job in the world, so the event design division PJ Hummel & Company was born.

What sets you apart from other vendors in your field?
What sets PJ Hummel & Company apart from other vendors in our field is our longevity, expertise, and experience. We have had many opportunities to work on some really big projects in some very unusual locations.

What's your style?
Our company is known for our elegance and total room transformations with the use of fabrics and lighting.

What is the main thing that makes you unique?
We are a hybrid of designer and supplier, and have a strong passion for new ideas. We call ourselves “the ultimate event resource” because we do it all. We own our own inventory of soft seating, 20’ high drapes, centerpieces, and decorative galore.

What is your greatest strength?
Our team. We are a group of risk taking entrepreneurial creatives, artists, business majors, graphic & industrial designers, and trained carpenters. Our trendsetting passionate team is capable of almost anything in house.

What are you most proud of?
We are proud to still be in business, it’s been a long bumpy few years for small businesses. A few of our competitors didn’t make it through. We’re proud that we love what we do, and make things beautiful ever day.
