Columbia Winery's 2013 Merlot Best-In-Class at San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Columbia MerlotCongratulations to Columbia Winery and their 2013 Merlot, which took home a best-in-class award at the recent San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

"Sean Hails, winemaker for Columbia Winery, said the grapes for his best-of-class 2013 Merlot came from across the vast Columbia Valley, with a focus in the Horse Heaven Hills and Wahluke Slope.

Hails arrived just before the 2012 vintage from California’s Central Valley, so 2013 was his first full year living in Washington and working for the Gallo-owned Columbia Winery in Woodinville. He said he’s quickly learned that Washington is a special place to make wine.

'Washington does Merlot really really well, and this just shows it,' he said. “I’m excited the judges enjoyed the wine.”

EFESTE Announces 6th Annual Rockin’ Sips Fundraiser

EFESTE Rockin SipsHelp put an end to cancer and join us for EFESTE's 6th Annual Rockin’ Sips Fundraiser, Saturday, February 28th from 4-7pm!

What started as a heartbreaking event has inspired this annual celebration of wine and music. In 2006, winery owners Kevin and Angela Taylor learned that their young son Joe, grandson to ‘Big Papa’ Daniel Ferrelli and Helen Ferrelli, was diagnosed with Leukemia. He was 5 at the time. Happily, Joe is cancer free today. Through this experience, the family founded Rockin’ Sips to contribute to medical advances in the fight against cancer.

This year, it’s even more personal. Rockin' Sips, EFESTE’s annual fundraiser, will not only pay tribute to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Children's Hospital for their exceptional care of Joseph "Tough Guy" Taylor during his cancer treatment from 2006-2011, but also a very close friend of the winery, Ann Molitor. Ann is currently fighting Acute Lymhpoblastic Leukemia with great success.

Sip some of the hottest names in the Washington wine, beer, and cider industries including Avennia Winery, Force Majeure Vineyards, Obelisco Estate, Bellevue Brewing Company, and Schilling and Company Hard Cider. Savor slices of EFESTE's classic gourmet pizzas from the Wood Stone oven along with appetizers from Fez on Wheels and Green Apple Catering.  Rock on to live music by cover band Soul Siren. Get lucky and win one of the amazing raffle prizes donated from local businesses. New this year, the release of the coveted Tough Guy wine will coincide with the Rockin’ Sips event. The wine, a tribute to Joe and his brush off attitude during treatment, also helps raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Purchased your Advance tickets today and secure your Tough Guy wine (also benefiting LLS) in advance and pick it up at the event!

Get Crushed! With JM Cellars & Novelty Hill-Januik Winery

get crushed

As Northwest leaves start to turn red and gold, autumn brings a bounty of colorful activities to Woodinville Wine Country and that means it's also Crush Season! Crush is when grapes are harvested and wineries are buzzing with the sights, sounds, sweat and science of winemaking.

To celebrate, Woodinville Wine Country is offering a free, first-hand education in this fascinating process with their annual “Get Crushed” tour on Saturday, October 11th from 12 pm – 5pm.

They’ll feature three different wineries, including Weddings in Woodinville venue wineries JM Cellars and Novelty Hill Januik in the Hollywood and Warehouse Districts as they take Washington grapes from vine to vintage.

We invite you to join them as they experience different processes and offer tasting opportunities! This is a free event but you are encouraged to keep checking the WWC website closer to the event for special “Get Crushed” special pricing at participating wineries.
