Why you need a QR Code (& what they are) to enhance your experience at Weddings in Woodinville

Photo from the Cake StudioWeddings in Woodinville is excited to again offer attendees the ability to use QR Codes at vendor stations to allow brides and their entrouage the ability to obtain quick and easy access to a great deal more information than they would be available on a business card alone.  Many vendors have even included discounts on their services.

A quick recap of what a QR code is:
QR codes come to us from Japan where they have been common for many years. QR is short for Quick Response and are used to take a piece of information from a temporary media source and put it in to your cell phone. Once the QR code has been saved in your cell phone, it can give details ranging from behind-the-scene looks at the making of that Victoria’s Secret ad to a URL that takes you directly to that business website, or it may give you a coupon.

The reason why they are more useful than a standard barcode is that they can store (and digitally present) much more data, including url links, geo coordinates, and text. The other key feature of QR Codes is that instead of requiring a chunky hand-held scanner to scan them, many modern cell phones can scan them.

Great!  Now how do I download a QR scanner to my smartphone?
Easy! Go to your phones applications, type in QR code, and download any of the free options.

Done… what now?
After the app has installed, open your new program and you will see a red line across your phones screen. Move your phone forward to make the viewfinder zoom in on a QR code.  Here’s one to practice on!

Once the code is read, a notification will come up that there is a Found URL. Click the “Open Browser” button and it will then bring up your app link. This will point your browser to a website containing the companies information that we want to share.

The  idea behind scanning a bar code is that it is much faster than typing a Web address on your tiny smartphone keyboard or touch screen… which is so 2008 right?!

We hope you find the QR codes useful (and fun too) during the show!

Wood-fired pizza by trailer for your event with Veraci Pizza

Veraci Pizza first started making pizzas at the Ballard Farmer's Market in May of 2004.  But, the idea of putting a wood-fired pizza oven on a trailer took years to realize, today they are Seattle's original, award-winning traveling wood-fired pizza company.

Veraci Pizza features delicious ultra-thin artisan crust made from their secret recipe. Each batch of dough is hand prepared in a mixing bowl, never by machine.  They fire their gourmet pizzas with apple wood from Yakima Valley in screaming oven temperatures around 1000 degrees.  Each pizza pie is cooked in fewer than two minutes!  They use only the freshest and highest quality natural ingredients and buy direct from local farms whenever possible.  All of these things combine to create the most delicious pizza you'll ever experience.

Veraci Pizza, woof-fired pizza by trailer for your private eventVeraci Pizza will be at JM Cellars during Weddings in Woodinville, January 29th, 2012.

Rock & swing to the fiddle driven string band that is The Haggis Brothers

The Haggis Brothers are a rockin, swingin, fiddle driven string band that play regularly around the Seattle area; from Irish bars to weddings and everything in between; farmer's markets, festivals and private parties… and we are so excited to have them back at Weddings in Woodinville again this year to get your and your wedding party in the mood to celebrate with their “knee slapping, foot stomping, fire fiddling, bass plucking, guitar strumming” (as quoted by Kyle Snodgrass, editor of URgoodtimeguide.com) sounds.

And they have a great story of how the Haggis Brothers were born… it’s a must read... it includes kilts!

Back in March of 1997 Joe Ross put a group together as a one-off joke band, originally dubbed the Irish Posers, for St. Patrick's Day at the Back Door Lounge never dreaming it would blossom into the full time outfit. They got together again the next year for St. Patrick's Day and this time calling themselves Merle Haggis and the Drifting Highlanders.  They even all wore kilts. An annual tradition was born. Early in 2001 the band began a Monday night residency at the Lava Lounge and they evolved into the Haggis Brothers. They acquired a steady line-up of Ross, Lou Alexander, Sean Wheatly, and were soon joined by regulars Matt O'Toole on mandolin and Mike Collins on drums. Through constant gigging their playlist expanded beyond traditional Irish pub songs into American hoedown music, honky-tonk, swing and whatever else they feel like playing. These days the band usually plays as a trio of fiddle, guitar, and bass.

The Haggis Brothers will be at JM Cellars during Weddings in Woodinville, January 29th, 2012.
